Dear Friends and Customers,

I have always loved big granite boulders and many are so perfect that to change them in any way would be a crime. The beauty that exists in nature is impossible to compete with. Then there are times when I look at a rock and see an image that wants to get out. Often no one else sees it the way I do, but if I chip away a little here and a little there the rest of the world can see what I'm talking about. I like to let the rock dictate as much as possible, a practice that is both practical and artistic as granite is a very hard stone. Carving is the only way to create something by taking something away; it is a slow and unforgiving process. Mistakes are very difficult to correct. I probably spend as much time studying the rock as working on it, and when I'm working the rythmic chipping becomes meditative. It's similar to the zone one gets in when riding a horse. I enjoy this kind of work; it's slow and hard but ultimitly satisfying.
